As founder and Creative Director of Design Studio Nuovo, Frank Nuovo brings an exciting 25 years of product and brand design experience into sharp focus. Nuovo is credited in over 150 patents in the USA alone, and his brand design and marketing leadership has contributed to creation of billions of products sold around the world.
Nuovo began his career as Design Director for BMW/Designworks/USA. Honing his design, strategy, branding and communication skills there led to Nokia’s invitation to build and lead their first in-house design organization. Nuovo’s unique brainchild, Vertu, is EQT’s (Formerly Nokia’s) globally successful and rapidly growing brand of luxury communication devices which pioneered an entirely new market category. At the time of Nokia’s sale of Vertu, it was Nokia’s most profitable division.
Nuovo’s years of design leadership have resulted in scores of award-winning designs, and in particular, under his creative direction, Nokia lead the mobile industry in innovations and sales, including the best-selling mobile phone of all time, the Nokia 1100 series. (As of 2010, it sold over 250 million units and is widely credited as the best-selling consumer electronics device in history.) Nuovo’s watch as Nokia’s Chief of Design was a busy one, resulting in over 450 million products created each year by 2004 and a sustained global market share hovering around 38 percent.
